Minor injuries can happen through sports, accidents, or just everyday life - homeopathy can help

Whether you suffer an injury from a slip in the street, a sporting accident, or you just made a wrong move, homeopathy can be very helpful in strains, sprains and dislocations. It can relieve the short-term pain and speeding up the healing process. However, remember for serious injuries visit your local accident and emergency services.

Injuries

Most homeopathic pharmacies have an injury mix, which is a go-to for any injury. It not only helps you recover from the shock, but will help speed up healing. If the injury is severe then at a 30c potency you can take it every 15 minutes for 4 doses after the initial injury, then every 2 hours for the rest of that day, and three times a day thereafter. For less serious injuries take three times a day. As always stop with improvement, and only start taking another dose if the symptoms worsen.

Sprains and Dislocation
  • Arnica - Helps with the shock, soreness and bruising. You know it's needed when the person is clearly injured but insists they are okay, but don't want anyone to touch them.

  • Bryonia - Sometimes a severe sprain or dislocation will cause a muscle to rupture. Here Arnica is not sufficient. The patient will find it difficult to move, and get a sharp pain when they try to do so. This is often need in a back strain, when someone has lifted something too heavy, or made a wrong move. The patient is likely to be very thirsty.

  • Rhus-tox - After a dislocation has been resolved, but where there is pain remaining around the joint, or after a sprain with lots of pain. The joint feels more comfortable once it has been kept moving, but gets stiff when kept still, and on first moving it.

  • Pulsatilla - Where the symptoms appear to require Rhus-Tox but it doesn't relieve.

  • Ruta - If there is persistent stiffness and weakness after a sprain in the region of the joint Ruta will be helpful. It has the same indication as Rhus-tox, in that it is painful on first movement, but then improves as it warms up on gentle movement.

A Turned Ankle

Some people find that they are continually spraining and ankle (but it can be any joint), and that joint has become weakened. A couple of doses of either of the following two remedies can be helpful to stop this happening.

  • Calc Carb - Loose joint that tends to turn over and is weak.

  • Strontium Carb - Where there is also stiffness and a tendency to dislocation.

Broken Bones

Once a broken bone has been professionally set, you can help speed up the recovery, but it is imperative that the bone is correctly aligned.

  • Symphytum - Otherwise known as "bone set" or Comfrey, this is an age old remedy to help the bone knit together. It can be taken as a herbal tea or a low-potency remedy.

  • Calc Phos - Taken as a tissue salt this helps the structure of the bones, making them stronger as they mend.
